Winter is a time of wonderful extremes and beautiful contradictions: the days are shortest, but the absence of leaves and the presence of snow makes them the brightest. Tracking opportunities abound, revealing creatures invisible the rest of the year. Many things obvious become invisible, while others rise to meet us: the chickadee and other birds that overwinter, foxes and other animals that do not hibernate, and the numerous evergreen trees, shrubs and low-growing forbs, ferns, mosses, and lichens, all remaining unchanged in stubborn defiance of Winter’s icy grip. They call us to find them, longing to know us better… what fun, what magic – Let’s Go!
