Afterschool Enrichment

WDS Afterschool Enrichment features a wide range of options for kids of all ages and interests. With a staff culled from the worlds of art, literature, naturalism, athletics, science, and several physical disciplines, our ASE programs offer excellent opportunities for students to learn, grow, strengthen, and have fun!

To be admitted to class(es), tuition must be paid in full at time of registration via e-check only. 

Classes may be dropped after the first scheduled class, with full refund. Tuition is not refundable after second class.

Woodstock Day School Afterschool Enrichment Code of Conduct Right of Refusal:
The Woodstock Day School Afterschool Enrichment Program reserves the right to refuse any registration and to cancel any child’s class registration for disruptive or inappropriate behavior, without refund.

If a child is disruptive in an ASE class, the child will be removed to the Aftercare Program.  The parent(s) will be notified to pick up child immediately and Aftercare fees will be applied.

MONDAYS

ADVANCED POKEMON CLUB!

IMPORTANT: This class is for players who want to hone their skills for competitive play.  Players need to have a competitive deck in standard format, as cards will not be provided.  We will cover game strategy, study currently competitive decks that are winning tournaments, and focus the majority of our time on building skill through competitive play. This class is for players who wish to compete in tournaments outside of school and players will be encouraged to work to upgrade their decks as new strategies come out and new releases are introduced. Ideally, being able to attend league play in Catskill on some Thursday nights is encouraged. (Current plan is to offer an Introduction to Pokemon class again next fall for those students who don’t feel ready for competitive play.)

Come explore Shakespeare’s world with interactive connections in the craft, language, characters, and actions of his most popular plays. We will be looking at a different play every week for 5 sessions, and then selecting 3 plays for deeper exploration for the final 3 sessions.

PATHFINDER TABLETOP ROLE-PLAYING GAME

Pathfinder is based on Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition. (Players are encouraged to purchase or download the rulebook: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/.)

Participants will role-play heroes on a quest for fame and fortune in a fantastic sword and sorcery setting. Tabletop role playing provides a fun experience while developing creativity, planning, and problem solving skills.

First Level characters will be provided, but players who have access to the rules may bring their own character in, provided the Character Sheet is filled out using 20 Ability Score Points (Table 1-1).

The Woodstock Archers Guild is a program that aims to develop mindfulness and physical awareness through traditional archery. It is for grades 3 and up, and requires no previous experience or personal equipment.  Each session is 1 ½ hours long and follows a consistent routine involving cooperative archery games, league style competition and meditative practice.

BREATHE, STRETCH & ROAR: YOGA & MINDFULNESS FOR KIDS

Join Leah and Toni for Yoga and Mindfulness for kids.  Using music, breathing exercises and yoga poses we will work our minds and bodies creating warmth and energy as well as calm and focus.  Our little yogis will fly like butterflies, roar like dragons, go on imaginary adventures and more as they experience the joy and benefits of yoga. Children will learn yoga poses for focus, strength and perseverance and guided meditations which stretch our imagination and calm our brains.

Hey girls, do you want to get in shape but don’t have time to go the a gym? Or do you ever get intimidated at the thought of going to a gym? Come and play with Heidi and girls your age and learn how to use what you have around you to get fit and feel great. We will do a lot of calisthenics and body weight exercises that you’ll be able to do in the privacy of your own home. It’s a great way to get stronger and have fun at the same time!

WILDLIFE AMBASSADORS PROGRAM: AN AFRICAN SAFARI

In this exciting project-based course, students explore the flora and fauna of the African savanna. Through lessons and research, kids learn about exotic wildlife, producing a creative and engaging museum exhibit.

At the end of the course, students will be able to: define and explain the importance of conservation; identify and compare the different animal population statuses; such as threatened, endangered, and living extinction; explain what endangered and threatened means; conduct research and interpret data; show the connections of habitat and wildlife in a specific ecosystem; and use critical thinking to problem solve and find solutions to help endangered species.
