WDS Wilderness Adventure (Ages 8-11)

Do you have what it takes to survive? Can you find food and clean water in the forest or determine your path with only a map and compass? If you think you are rugged or want to learn how to live in the wild with only your hands and your wits, join us for WDS Wilderness Adventure this summer.
Hike through the forest and discover sights few humans have shared. Learn to build your own fire and cook your own food without a stove or a microwave. Camouflage yourself to blend into your surroundings, leaving no trace of your presence to other animals or people. Learn wilderness safety and survival skills. Be as comfortable building your own shelter in the woods as you are in your home. Get outside and get rugged! Survive with us this summer!
Dates: July 8-12
Adirondack Wilderness Adventure (Ages 13-17)

Is it time for you to venture beyond the Catskills to explore the peaks of the North Country? Then come with us this summer to the Adirondacks. Our Adirondack Wilderness Adventure camp is designed to introduce you to the next level of camping.
Our week will start by training campers in the skills that are necessary for a longer stay in the deeper wilderness: use a large internal or external frame backpack, become familiar with safe use of camping stoves, build fires, purify water, and learn basic safety. On Wednesday we will travel to the heart of the High Peaks in the Adirondacks. We will spend three days and two nights camping out in some of the most beautiful wilderness in the Northeast. This year we will climb Wright Peak and Mt. Algonquin, two of the tallest mountains in New York State, and then return to WDS with amazing stories to tell. If you are ready to bring yourself to new heights, join us this summer for our Adirondack Wilderness Adventure.
Dates: August 5-9
Into the Forest (Ages 8-11)

Do you like to spend your summers knee deep in streams catching frogs, newts, or whatever else you can spy? Have you ever tracked a deer and fawn through the forest watching their every move, hoping they don’t notice you? Do you wonder what animals, plants, and microscopic creatures use the same air, sun and water that you do?
Each day during our Into the Forest camp, campers will discover new organisms, wade into the pond and stream at WDS to discover what else shares our environment, and get to know the living things that surround us. Campers will also use the science center at WDS to investigate their discoveries further using microscopes, basic chemistry and physics techniques, and our research stations. If you are a budding scientist, ecologist, or just plain curious, our Into the Forest camp is for you.
Dates: July 22-July 26
