Fine Arts

The Art Education program at the Woodstock Day School prepares students to be reflective artists and active creators.  We endeavor to broaden the visual art experience of our community and acknowledge that we are living in a time that demands the constant reinvention of artistic forms.  We push the boundaries of traditional art making to incorporate creative trends, modern art techniques, and expressive media used in popular and contemporary culture.  We introduce and continue to build skills in various media, with continued growth of these skills year after year; to guide aesthetic awareness; to foster respect for the arts; to build the fine motor skills of the students; to encourage collaboration, teambuilding and the use of group and self-critique; to be aware always that the whole person is nurtured and that every student has individual strengths to build upon.

At WDS, art takes place in multiple settings with diverse learners.  Our students bring all of themselves- their curiosity, their personalities, their fears, and their excitement- to bear on every experience.  We encourage our students to take chances and actively engage and reflect with creating and analyzing works of art in ways that are personally relevant, empowering and authentic.
