WDS Community

In an increasingly interdependent world, the values of mutual respect, of finding strength in difference, and of collaborative problem-solving continue to grow. These core values have been at the heart of our program for over 35 years. Instilling community values is something that begins in the Nursery School years, when kids just begin to appreciate the feelings of others. It extends through our unique Buddy System, where younger and older students are paired up at the beginning of each school year, to support one another and share experiences through regularly scheduled buddy events. And for our high schoolers, it means participating in a structured volunteer program that gives them a new level of connection to local resources and community needs. Special events through the year bring the entire WDS community together, like the annual Harvest Festival, where the whole school prepares a feast including cuisines of the world and the crop from the school garden. Acceptance of each other’s cultural, racial and physical difference is stressed, in a nourishing atmosphere where students are encouraged to be themselves.
