Upper School Emphasis
Literacy is the ability to think and reason as an independent, thoughtful person within our society. Literacy is a way of thinking, not just a set of skills. We encourage our students to think and reason independently. We wish to develop in them a life-long appreciation for text—all the while reacting to an ever-expanding definition of text. We connect text to the broader world. In addition, expanding our definition of text is imperative, as intertextuality deepens understanding, and engagement of students.
